IRSX-2 Brings Intelligent Thermal Inspection to the Process
AT Sensors has introduced the IRSX-2, a stand-alone infrared camera designed to continuously monitor temperatures, analyze thermal data and communicate results directly with industrial control and visualization systems.
The camera combines infrared temperature measurement with integrated image processing, allowing temperature deviations to be detected within the process without requiring additional external processing hardware or software. Applications include thermal inspection of electronic components, early fire detection, industrial plant monitoring and quality control.
Integrated Measurement and Analysis
The IRSX-2 is designed to perform temperature measurement, evaluation and communication within a single camera. Its integrated image processing allows temperature data to be analyzed directly at the point of inspection, while Ethernet connectivity and industrial communication protocols such as Modbus and REST API provide direct connections to machine controls and plant visualization systems.
The stand-alone approach is intended to simplify integration and commissioning, with configuration carried out through a web-based interface.
A key feature of the IRSX-2 is its app-and-job architecture. The Smart Processing App allows multiple product-specific jobs or inspection plans to be stored on one camera, with individual areas of interest (AOIs) defined within each job. This enables the same camera to perform different inspection tasks without requiring complete reconfiguration between applications.
For applications requiring customized evaluation logic, LUA scripting can be used to implement additional processing directly within the camera.
Integration with Inspection Software
The IRSX-2 can also be configured for integration with external inspection and automation software. The GigE Vision app provides an interface for connecting the camera to in-house or third-party software systems.
AT Sensors also provides a digital twin capability that allows inspection tasks to be tested before being transferred to the physical camera. This can help users evaluate inspection configurations and processing requirements during system development.
Designed for Industrial Environments
The IRSX-2 features a more compact housing than its predecessor, with design changes aimed at continuous industrial operation. The camera has an IP67 rating and uses M12 cable connections for industrial connectivity. An optional air-blow device is available for applications where dust, moisture or other contamination could affect the camera or its optical path.
Improved thermal management within the housing is intended to support measurement stability during continuous operation.
Temperature Measurement and Resolution
The IRSX-2 is initially available with a 640 × 512-pixel detector. AT Sensors plans to introduce additional 320 × 256-pixel variants.
Depending on the model, the camera operates at frame rates of 60, 30 or 9 Hz. Two temperature measurement ranges are available. The standard range covers temperatures from -10 to +140 °C, while the high-temperature version measures from -10 to +500 °C.
Three focal lengths — 4.9, 9.2 and 13.6 mm — provide different fields of view and working-distance options.
The combination of integrated processing, configurable inspection jobs and industrial communication interfaces allows the IRSX-2 to be used for applications ranging from early fire detection and plant monitoring to thermal inspection of electronic components and monitoring of hot rolling, forming and hardening processes.
With the IRSX-2, AT Sensors is positioning infrared thermography as an integrated process-monitoring technology, with measurement, evaluation and communication handled directly within the camera rather than through a separate image-processing system.
