Hexagon Strengthens Industrial Inspection Portfolio With Waygate Acquisition
Hexagon has announced that it has closed its acquisition of Waygate Technologies, a global leader in non-destructive testing (NDT) solutions for industrial inspection, from Baker Hughes. Waygate Technologies is now part of Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence Business Area.
Together, the companies offer a more complete measurement and inspection portfolio, from the external dimensions and surface of a component to its internal structure and integrity.
Manufacturing Intelligence develops measurement and inspection technologies that help customers understand, verify and improve the quality of manufactured parts and processes. Hexagon is known for measuring the external geometry and surface of parts with high precision. Waygate Technologies develops advanced solutions to inspect what is happening inside a part, or in hard-to-access areas, without damaging or manipulating the part or equipment.
Complementary Product Portfolios
The two portfolios are distinct but highly complementary. Manufacturing Intelligence is renowned for coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), portable measuring devices and scanners, and metrology software. Hexagon’s strength in geometric measurement and metrology software meets Waygate Technologies’ strength in industrial computed tomography (CT), field radiography, ultrasonic testing (UT) solutions and remote visual inspection (RVI). Both companies stand for precision, reliability and decades of engineering expertise, and both serve quality teams that cannot afford uncertainty. Together, they complete the measurement and inspection chain.
Hexagon and Waygate Technologies already serve many of the same demanding industries, including aerospace and automotive. Quality teams in aerospace, automotive, electronics, battery manufacturing, energy and other industry sectors need to ensure the precise manufacturing and lasting quality and integrity of any critical part. These two views have often come from separate systems, data sets and suppliers. As one group, Hexagon and Waygate Technologies are now in a position to bring them together and give customers a clearer, more complete picture of part quality.
Holistic Suite of Measurement and Inspection Solutions
“Our customers have always told us that quality depends on understanding a part from the external geometry right through to the internal characteristics,” said Michael Bellamy, CEO of Waygate Technologies. “Together with Hexagon, we can offer a holistic suite of measurement and inspection solutions that drive greater value for customers. Our customers can continue to rely on their familiar products, services and contacts. Ongoing projects, services agreements and orders continue without interruption.”
“Waygate Technologies’ expertise in non-destructive testing extends our precision measurement portfolio from the surface to the interior of a component,” said Andreas Renulf, President of Manufacturing Intelligence at Hexagon. “We are proud to welcome our new colleagues. Together, we will help customers in aerospace, automotive, electronics and many other industries achieve higher quality and greater confidence across the product lifecycle.”
