High-Resolution Industrial Camera Integrates Active Cooling to Ensure Reproducible Images
SVS-Vistek has introduced its new hr455xXGE-T, a 61-megapixel 10GigE industrial camera featuring thermoelectric cooling (TEC) based on a Peltier element. Custom engineered by SVS-Vistek, the TEC system maintains stable environmental conditions for the camera’s large sensor, even when external temperatures are rising. Adding TEC to the hr455xXGE-T results in an increase in reproducible image quality which is essential for demanding machine vision applications like inspecting large displays, semiconductors, and electronics.
Importance of Constant Sensor Temperatures
Even minor fluctuations in the temperature of a camera sensor will have a degrading effect on image quality, making analysis more challenging. Heat generation within a camera might originate from the sensor, FPGA, and interface, in addition to the ambient temperature. A significant increase in sensor temperature risks a rise in dark noise and dark current levels, along with a change in spectral sensitivity, leading to the sensor exhibiting variations for different wavelengths. As temperatures increase, the heat also can compromise a vision system’s overall performance, potentially damaging electronic components or causing failure.
SVS-Vistek custom designed the TEC system in the hr455xXGE-T model. Among other innovations, this engineering involved development of a new housing incorporating integrated ventilation. The improved, milled aluminum housing achieves optimum heat dissipation through air circulation while it protects the sensor from dust and other particles. In combination with a Peltier element, this housing ensures a stable sensor temperature, despite changing ambient conditions. The end result is increased reliability and more consistent image quality.
Available in mono and color versions, the hr455xXGE-T is equipped with a powerful 10GigE interface that delivers up to 1.1 GB/sec of image data with distances up to 100 meters. Imaging at full 9568 x 6380 pixel color resolution, the camera’s frame rate is 18 frames-per-second. Power over Ethernet (PoE) is also available to minimize cable requirements.
