Artec 3D Releases New Ultra-High Resolution 3D Scanner

3D scanning company Artec 3D has launched Artec Spider II, a new target-free handheld 3D scanner. Designed to capture complex objects with an impressive level of detail, Spider II scans quickly, in full color, and ultra-high resolution. These features make it perfect for applications that require great attention to detail – from in-depth reverse engineering to the creation of hyper-realistic CGI.

Building on the success of its predecessor, Artec Space Spider, Spider II features significant improvements including greater depth and field of view, capture speed, and resolution.

Harnessing the power of blue-light technology, Spider II captures a unique mix of high-quality geometry and texture data for incredibly detailed models. In practice, this means digitizing everything from tiny surface details on coins to entire engine blocks, in soaring 0.05 mm resolution.

Spider II picks up data four times as quickly – at a rate of 30 FPS. At 1,800 cm³, the device’s volume capture zone is also twice the size, so it can scan larger objects, complex geometries, and sharp edges, effortlessly and error-free, while ensuring no detail goes uncaptured.

With a versatile design, lightweight 950-gram body, and target-free functionality, Spider II is highly intuitive and straightforward to use. Setup takes seconds, so users can start creating exceptionally lifelike 3D models in a single click, right out of the box.

“With Spider II, we’ve made a significant breakthrough, honing our original concept to deliver faster, easier, more realistic results. Now, we are bringing an unmatched level of resolution and detail to diverse fields,” said Art Yukhin, CEO & President of Artec 3D. “Spider II is ideal for capturing anything from priceless artifacts to vital forensic clues – wherever fine detail is required.”

Capable of capturing stunningly high-resolution scans of small-to-medium objects, Spider II allows for the creation of larger, more lifelike 3D models in industries where detail is key. In design, for example, the device’s outstanding color capture capabilities make it an effective tool for artists seeking to realize their creative visions with true-to-life 3D models.

With an accuracy of 0.05 mm and advanced resolution, Spider II also yields dense, feature-rich meshes, ideal for reverse engineering in industries with fine tolerances like automotive and manufacturing. Its depth of view allows engineers to thoroughly scan complex geometries, ensuring no detail is missed for reliable scan-to-CAD comparisons.
