Renishaw Reports Record Revenue as Semiconductor and Aerospace Drives Growth
Renishaw has reported record revenue and a significant improvement in profitability for its financial year ended 30 June 2026, with accelerating demand from semiconductor, aerospace and defence customers helping drive growth across all three of its newly defined business segments.
Group revenue increased 14% to £815.8 million, compared with £713.0 million in FY2025, or 17.3% at constant exchange rates. Adjusted operating profit increased 36% to £152.9 million, while the adjusted operating margin rose from 15.7% to 18.7%. Statutory profit before tax increased 27% to £150.0 million.
The results also reflect a particularly strong second half. Fourth-quarter revenue reached a record £244.2 million, 28% higher than the same period a year earlier, with Renishaw reporting continued growth in its order book. Chief Executive Will Lee said that FY2027 had started strongly, with the company continuing to benefit from the current upturn in demand for semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
Metrology Growth Supported by Emerging Systems and Software
Renishaw’s Industrial Metrology segment generated revenue of £447.4 million, an increase of 4% year on year, or 7% at constant exchange rates. Adjusted operating profit increased 2% to £76.7 million, although the operating margin declined slightly from 17.5% to 17.1%.
The company said growth in Industrial Metrology was driven primarily by its emerging metrology systems and software products, while sales of traditional metrology sensors were broadly flat. Renishaw continues to expand beyond individual measurement sensors into higher-value systems and software. The company highlighted the market response to its Equator-X gauging system, as well as the introduction of MODUS IM Equator software, which is designed to improve the productivity and functionality of Equator and Equator-X systems.
The results point to a continuing evolution of Renishaw’s metrology business, with software and integrated measurement systems becoming increasingly important alongside its established sensor portfolio.
Position Measurement Benefits from Semiconductor Investment
The strongest financial contribution came from Position Measurement, where revenue increased 26% to £260.9 million. Adjusted operating profit rose 53% to £71.5 million, taking the segment’s operating margin from 22.5% to 27.4%.
Renishaw attributed much of this growth to increased demand for position encoders from semiconductor and electronics manufacturing equipment manufacturers. The company has been benefiting from increased investment associated with the expansion of semiconductor manufacturing capacity and the demand generated by artificial intelligence computing.
APAC was particularly important, with regional revenue increasing 17% at constant exchange rates to £381.9 million. Renishaw said the growth was mainly driven by position encoder demand from semiconductor and electronics manufacturing equipment builders.
The semiconductor opportunity also illustrates how Renishaw’s measurement technologies increasingly sit upstream of the manufacturing process itself. The company’s encoders provide position feedback within the equipment used to manufacture advanced semiconductor devices, linking Renishaw’s performance to the continuing investment in increasingly precise and automated production systems.
Additive Manufacturing Moves Into Profit
Specialised Technologies was Renishaw’s fastest-growing segment during FY2026. Revenue increased 43% to £107.5 million, while adjusted operating profit moved from a £9.9 million loss in FY2025 to a £4.7 million profit.
The company attributed the improvement primarily to sharply higher demand for its additive manufacturing systems, particularly from aerospace and defence customers. Renishaw said it secured multiple machine orders from existing customers while also gaining market share.
Renishaw also highlighted its AM software developments, including LIBERTAS, introduced at Formnext, together with its TEMPUS technology. The company sees software and process capability as important elements in increasing the value delivered by its additive manufacturing systems.
From Measurement to Manufacturing Intelligence
The results provide further evidence of Renishaw’s broader move from component-level measurement technologies towards integrated measurement, manufacturing and software solutions.
The company has reorganised its business around three segments: Industrial Metrology, Position Measurement and Specialised Technologies. Renishaw says the structure is intended to align the organisation more closely with customers and end-user markets while giving each segment responsibility across the product-delivery cycle.
The strategy is also visible in the company’s product development. Within metrology, Renishaw is increasing the software capability surrounding its measurement systems. Within additive manufacturing, it is combining machines, process technologies and software. And within Position Measurement, it is extending its encoder technology into new applications, including harsh-environment aerospace and defence applications with its ASTRiA inductive encoder.
Stronger margins and cost reduction
The improvement in profitability was not solely the result of higher sales. Renishaw said its cost reduction and restructuring programme generated approximately £20 million of cost savings during FY2026, equivalent to around 2.5 percentage points of operating-margin improvement.
At the same time, higher sales volumes generated operating leverage, contributing a further 4.4 percentage points of margin improvement. This was partly offset by product and geographic mix and currency effects.
Strong start to FY2027
Looking ahead, Renishaw expects further progress in revenue, profit and operating margin during FY2027. The company specifically points to the continuing upturn in semiconductor manufacturing equipment demand, while its emerging metrology systems, software and additive manufacturing businesses provide additional areas for growth.
