Millimeter Wave Imaging Advances Industrial Quality Inspection

Rohde & Schwarz has introduced the R&S IMAGER, a real-time millimeter wave inspection system designed to enable non-destructive quality inspection of packaged products across pharmaceutical, logistics and manufacturing applications.

Using non-ionizing millimeter wave technology, the system can inspect products through common packaging materials without the use of X-rays, providing manufacturers with a safe method of verifying product integrity while protecting both operators and sensitive products. The technology generates high-contrast three-dimensional images that can be incorporated into AI-driven inspection systems for automated defect detection and quality assurance.

High-Speed Volumetric Inspection

The R&S IMAGER expands Rohde & Schwarz’s industrial inspection portfolio by combining millimeter wave imaging with advanced signal processing. The system transmits millimeter waves through packaging materials, analyses the reflected signals using a sensor array and reconstructs detailed volumetric images capable of revealing hidden components, assembly errors and material defects.

Unlike conventional vision systems, which are limited to surface inspection, the R&S IMAGER provides a three-dimensional digital representation of every inspected package, enabling manufacturers to verify internal product configuration at production-line speeds.

Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
