CRP Group Launches Digital Identity System for Windform Components

CRP Group has launched CRP UniqTrust, a new digital identity and anti-counterfeiting system that enables customers to instantly verify the authenticity of Windform composite components, manufcatured using a smartphone.

Designed for industries where component provenance is critical, including aerospace, motorsport and defence, the system provides each Windform manufactured part with a secure digital identity that accompanies it throughout the supply chain.

Unlike conventional authentication methods that rely solely on documentation and certificates, CRP UniqTrust embeds a concealed, physically non-replicable microchip into the component’s packaging. Protected by military-grade encryption, the chip can be verified simply by holding an NFC-enabled smartphone close to the package. No dedicated application is required, allowing authorised users to immediately confirm that the component is genuine.

The technology is intended to help manufacturers and end users combat counterfeit parts while improving traceability across increasingly complex global supply chains.

Secure Authentication and Real-Time Verification

Each authenticated component is assigned a unique digital identifier that is managed in real time. The system validates only the correct version of the component while immediately detecting and rejecting unauthorised verification attempts, helping prevent counterfeit or altered parts from entering the production or maintenance process.

Rather than functioning as a simple security label, the digital identity becomes an integral part of the product’s lifecycle, providing continuous verification from manufacture through deployment.

“For us, this isn’t simply about applying a smart label,” said Franco Cevolini, CEO and CTO of CRP Group. “We chose to give our clients’ components a digital identity of their own—one that stays with them even after they leave our facilities. It’s the same culture of innovation we apply in production, now extended to traceability: a component able to tell its own story at every point along its journey.”

He added that the initiative reflects CRP Group’s strategy of anticipating the future requirements of highly regulated industries rather than reacting to them.

Preparing for the Digital Product Passport Era

The launch also aligns with the European Union’s evolving Digital Product Passport (DPP) initiative, which will require many industrial products to carry comprehensive digital information throughout their lifecycle.

By implementing a digital identity infrastructure today, CRP Group is positioning its additive manufacturing operations ahead of forthcoming regulatory requirements while offering customers enhanced transparency and product documentation.

Beyond authentication, the digital identity can also provide authorised users with instant access to supporting documentation, including:

  • Certificates of conformity
  • Engineering drawings
  • Quality inspection reports
  • Other customer-specific documentation

All information can be accessed directly from a smartphone whenever required.

Enhancing Trust in Additive Manufacturing Supply Chains

Available for components manufactured using CRP Group’s Windform high-performance composite materials, CRP UniqTrust is designed to strengthen supply chain integrity while reducing the risk of counterfeit components entering safety-critical applications.

According to CRP Group, the combination of secure authentication, anti-counterfeiting protection and digital traceability within a single integrated platform is currently unique within the advanced composites additive manufacturing sector.

As additive manufacturing continues to gain adoption for mission-critical applications, technologies that provide trusted digital identities and verifiable provenance are becoming increasingly important for ensuring component authenticity, regulatory compliance and supply chain resilience.
