Cognex Reports Record Q2 Revenue as AI-Enabled Machine Vision Drives Growth
Cognex Corporation, a global technology leader in industrial machine vision, has reported record revenue for the second quarter ended July 5, 2026, as broad-based demand across its major end markets combined with continued growth in AI-enabled vision applications.
Second-quarter revenue reached $291 million, an increase of 17% compared with $249 million in the same quarter of 2025. On a constant-currency basis, revenue increased 16%. Cognex said the growth reflected broad-based strength across most of its major end markets.
The company also reported a significant improvement in profitability. Operating income doubled year over year to $86 million, compared with $43 million in Q2 2025, while operating margin increased from 17.4% to 29.4%.
Adjusted EBITDA rose 81% to $94 million, with the adjusted EBITDA margin reaching 32.2%, compared with 20.7% a year earlier. Cognex said the improvement was driven primarily by revenue growth and favorable product and market mix.
Stronger Margins and Earnings
Gross margin increased to 70.6%, compared with 67.4% in the second quarter of 2025. Adjusted gross margin was 71.5%, up 350 basis points year over year. According to Cognex, the improvement was primarily attributable to favorable mix and volume, with tariff refunds not making a material contribution.
Operating expenses declined by 3% to $120 million, despite the higher level of revenue. Adjusted operating expenses also fell 3%, while on a constant-currency basis they decreased 5%, reflecting what the company described as disciplined cost management.
Net income increased 78% to $73 million, compared with $41 million in Q2 2025. Adjusted net income rose 77% to $76 million.
Diluted earnings per share increased 79% to $0.43, while adjusted diluted earnings per share reached $0.45, an 80% increase from $0.25 in the prior-year quarter.
Cognex said the quarter represented its eighth consecutive quarter of margin expansion and its eighth consecutive quarter of adjusted earnings-per-share growth.
AI Moves Further Into Machine Vision
Alongside its financial results, Cognex highlighted the general availability of OneVision, its platform designed to accelerate the configuration and deployment of AI-powered machine vision applications.
Hundreds of customers are already using the platform, according to the company. The move reflects the growing role of AI in industrial inspection, where manufacturers are looking to deploy vision systems capable of handling increasingly complex inspection and automation tasks while reducing the engineering effort required to configure them.
For the industrial metrology and inspection sector, the development is significant because AI-enabled vision is increasingly extending machine vision beyond conventional rule-based inspection. Applications can include identifying defects, recognizing variable product characteristics and automating inspection tasks that traditionally required significant programming and engineering expertise.
Diversification Strategy
Matt Moschner, President and CEO of Cognex, said the second-quarter performance demonstrated continued progress with the company’s strategy. “Q2 was another strong quarter for Cognex and further evidence that our strategy is driving results,” said Moschner. “We delivered exceptional performance, highlighted by record revenue, strong margin expansion, and significant earnings growth.”
He attributed the performance to both a more favorable demand environment and focused execution across the business.
Moschner also emphasized diversification as a central element of Cognex’s future growth strategy. The company is seeking to expand its reach across customers, sales channels, adjacent applications and end markets, while concentrating on automation challenges where its technology can deliver significant value.
“We believe this strategy will position Cognex to shape the future of AI-enabled machine vision and deliver more sustainable and profitable growth over time,” he said.
The company is also targeting expansion of its customer base, with a strategic objective of doubling the number of customers using its technologies.
Focus on Scalable Growth
Cognex CFO Dennis Fehr said the second-quarter results demonstrate the leverage within the company’s business model.
“We believe that our Q2 performance underscores the strength of our profitable growth strategy and the strong leverage in our financial model,” said Fehr. He added that Cognex is continuing to transform its operating model to improve productivity, support sustainable margin expansion and increase its ability to scale efficiently.
Outlook for 2026
Cognex has issued full-year 2026 guidance calling for strong double-digit revenue growth together with significant year-over-year expansion in profitability.
The company’s second-quarter results suggest that the industrial machine vision market is benefiting from improving demand while manufacturers continue to invest in automation, inspection and AI-enabled production technologies.
With record quarterly revenue, substantially higher margins and the commercial rollout of OneVision, Cognex enters the second half of 2026 with its financial performance increasingly aligned with its broader strategy: expanding the adoption of AI-enabled machine vision while building a more diversified and scalable industrial automation business.
