Multi-Sensor CMM Optimizes Mould Making Quality Assurance

The Finke Group, an established company in the mold making sector specializing in injection molding production, has successfully integrated an LH 1512 coordinate measuring machine from WENZEL into its production processes. The measuring solution has made a significant contribution to ensuring the production quality and dimensional accuracy of their products.

The Finke Group manufactures a wide range of parts that are used in various end products. The parts produced include injection molding tools, measuring gauges, removal grippers and assembly devices. These are used for a wide range of applications, from single tools to complex GID articles as well as compression molds. The size of the tools ranges up to dimensions of 2,800 × 1,500 mm with a total weight of 30 tons.

High Precision For Wide Range of Applications

By using the WENZEL measuring system, in particular the LH 1512 coordinate measuring machine, the Finke Group can precisely check the quality of its tools and articles. This enables precise measurement in accordance with the required specifications and effective support during tool changes. The component measurement is used to verify the specification, to determine distortion and to carry out series-accompanying measurements during plastics production.

The main task is to ensure the dimensional accuracy of the plastic items produced. This includes measurements for initial sample test reports, measurements during series production as well as ensuring machining production. Before the WENZEL measuring system was introduced, an articulated measuring arm was used. However, this was no longer accepted by customers due to its insufficient accuracy. The required measuring accuracies are based on the specific requirements of the customers with regard to SPC (Statistical Process Control) dimensional inspections. The WENZEL coordinate measuring machine offers the necessary accuracy to meet these requirements.

Multi-Sensor Solution

The Finke Group uses the WENZEL CMM LH 1512 in combination with a PH 10M Plus rotary swivel head and a tactile SP25M probe system from Renishaw. For optical measurement, the highly flexible WENZEL SHAPETRACER 3D line scanner is used to capture and process point clouds in order to manage the measurement tasks effectively.

This multi-sensor solution offers broad coverage of measurement requirements with high accuracy according to specifications. The measuring systems are housed in a specially equipped measuring room close to production. This enables measurements to be carried out efficiently and promptly during the production process.

“The WENZEL measuring systems were selected based on various criteria, including the coverage of a wide range of applications with high accuracy, the cost-benefit ratio, the machine availability and the user-friendly and ergonomic operability,” explains Nick Nolte, measurement technician and advance quality planner at the Finke Group. “We also particularly appreciate WENZEL’s outstanding customer support and availability as well as the solution-oriented cooperation. Being able to fall back on a reliable contact person in the event of problems is of great value,” continues Nolte.

The successful implementation of the WENZEL measuring systems has enabled the Finke Group to optimize its manufacturing processes and further increase the quality of its products. The partnership with WENZEL underlines the commitment of both companies to technical excellence and customer satisfaction.
