LK Metrology Unveils New Range of Probe Rack Systems for CMMs
LK Metrology has launched an innovative range of probe rack systems designed for coordinate measuring machines (CMMs). These racks, which are mounted on the granite table of the CMM, serve as storage solutions for styli, probes, adapters, and laser scanners. They enable automatic exchange of these tools by the CMM probe head, significantly enhancing the efficiency of CNC inspection and measurement processes by eliminating the need for time-consuming manual intervention.
The new LK probe rack systems are equipped with more ports than competing models, making them compatible not only with LK-brand CMMs but also with machines from other manufacturers. By organizing and securely storing tools and accessories, the racks reduce the risk of accidental damage and help extend the lifespan of the equipment.
Designed for flexibility, the systems feature support rails that come in three lengths: 500 mm, 600 mm, and 700 mm. These rails can support one or more of the new rack modules, which are available in three categories. Combining multiple modules provides comprehensive storage solutions, particularly in environments where a variety of probe and sensor technologies are used to meet today’s complex quality control requirements. The racks operate without the need for additional motors or cables, as the CMM’s motion automatically locks and unlocks the probe head auto-joint to facilitate tool changes. Furthermore, no requalification is needed after swapping modules.
The first category of the new rack systems is the TSR (Multi-Sensor Tool Storage Rack), which offers either 5 or 10 ports. The TSR features a protective cover to safeguard both the sensors and the probe interfaces. This rack can accommodate a range of tools, including laser scanners, touch trigger probes, surface finish probes, and extension bars. Its versatile design ensures optimal tool selection for each part of the CNC inspection cycle, boosting both accuracy and productivity.
Next, LK offers a three-port SSR (Stylus Storage Rack) that is specifically designed for automatic stylus changes. This module accommodates a variety of stylus configurations and materials, including those used for analogue scanning, allowing for easy tool swapping during the inspection process.
Finally, the 3-port MSR (Module Storage Rack) is tailored for the popular tactile scanning probe modules, providing a reliable and efficient way to store and exchange these increasingly essential tools.
