Control Expo 2022 Preview #5

With the most important event in the exhibition calendar for Quality Control and Metrology equipment and services suppliers fast approaching we publish the fifth and final in our series of preview articles highlighting a few of the many new and innovative solutions that will be showcased at the Control Exhibition May 3 – 6th May in Stuttgart, Germany.

Optical Measurement Manual Inspection Station

With the VisionUnit workstation, senswork GmbH has developed a turnkey manual inspection station for optical measurement and inspection tasks. Depending on the inspection task and requirements, it can be customized. Key features include a high-resolution 50MP multi-camera system, an interchangeable part fixture for inspecting different part types, a part marking unit, a visualization system based on senswork VisionCommander and options for connection to customer-specific MES, handling systems or robots for automatic part loading.

AI Supports Manual Visual Inspection

The startup Hopie.tech has developed tools for the interface between humans and digital technologies. For the first time, at CONTROL, they will showcase 2|inspect – a Computer Assisted Visual Inspection system (CAVI) that combines the strengths of humans with the strengths of computers: while the computer does not miss any inspection points, the human brings necessary expertise to the table, to quickly correct detected defects.

2|inspect is a software-based inspection system that uses a regular mobile device to take images of an inspection object. This provides the inspector maximum flexibility and the freedom to capture large machines and aggregates. After image capturing, the 2|inspect APP automatically locates all inspection points and presents them to the inspector in a table for step-by-step inspection. The inspector decides on the inspection points by accepting, rejecting or reworking them. In return, the software learns from the inspector’s decisions and, after a short time, takes over the evaluation of recurring inspection tasks. With this division of labor between man & machine, the formerly manual visual inspection receives a significant gain in efficiency. The man-machine team solves the inspection tasks faster and reliably documents the entire inspection process.

Empowering Performance Exactly

Mahr’s theme for the trade fair ‘Empowering Performance Exactly’ presenting products and solutions for production metrology. Among exhibited products will be the Mar4D PLQ cylinder coordinate measuring machines which offers workpiece flexibility and multi-sensor technology for a wide range of applications directly in production. Mar4D PLQ works at high speed and precision for fast and reliable measurement results.

The Contour Measuring Instrument MarSurf CD 140 AG 11 is equipped with a probing system over a measuring range of up to 70 mm. The probe tips can be changed quickly and without tools without recalibration. The MarForm MFU 200 mould measuring machine checks the shape and position of rotationally symmetrical workpieces with ultra-precise tolerances of less than one thousandth of a millimetre. The MarOpto MFU 200-3D shape measuring machine measures components of the optical industry ultra-precisely, automatically, quickly and close to production in 2D and 3D. It is ideal for processing optical geometries such as spheres or aspheres and is incomparable for freeforms.

5-Axis Measurement Focus

Improve CMM productivity in an easier way with the 5-axis technology driven by X4 platform. There are growing demands within the manufacturing industry to increase productivity and efficiency levels at a faster pace. Metrologic Group in collaboration with Renishaw deliver a unique and impactful way of improving CMM productivity using 5-axis measurement technology – Renishaw’s PH20 and REVO systems integrated with Metrolog X4 and Silma X4 software solutions.

With its software solutions fully integrated with complex 5-axis technology, Metrologic Group allows users to enjoy all the advantages of 5-axis technology but in an extremely simple and accessible way. At the Metrologic Group booth visitors will be able to discover how to minimize dynamic errors and increase productivity at ultra-high measuring speeds with easy-to-use software for the operator that is combined with 5-axis technology.

This solution is more than a game changer, with a perfect 5-axis management not only saves time, but you get many more details that will enable in depth dimensional and GD&T analysis. With easy access to features at any angle, Renishaw heads’ infinite positioning capability guarantees optimal feature access, minimal stylus changes, as well as a much faster head and probe calibration.

Inline Inspection of Surface Cleanliness and Coatings

F-Camera mini is a system for inline inspection of component surfaces. The system detects impurities or the quality of coatings within the production cycle with resolutions down to the micrometer range. The system is suitable for inspecting small components with high spatial resolution such as electronic components on both reflective and rough surfaces. Due to fluorescence measurement technology, the system detects organic substances on metallic surfaces with particularly high sensitivity: residual filmic contamination down to a thickness of just a few 10 nm is reliably detected.

3D Scanner Provides Freedom-To-Measure

API is presenting its next generation of iScan3D Laser Scanner featuring improved optics and blue crossed laser lines for fast and accurate metrology grade point cloud generation. iScan3D is the third-generation version of API’s metrology-grade scanner designed for portable shop-floor dimensional inspection and scanning applications to provide both accurate measurements and point-cloud generation from a single-handed ergonomic sensor.

iScan3D, with integral process controller, connects with API’s RADAIAN Six Degrees of Freedom (6DoF) Laser Tracker to accurately monitor scanner position and deliver high accuracy measuring and scanning. iScan3D completely negates user inconveniences associated with articulating arm scanners,  operator fatigue, arm gymnastics, part access issues, and limited measuring ranges. iScan3D combines tactile and scanning measurements, giving users the freedom to measure wherever and whenever, regardless of part size and feature locations, in a single setup. With iScan3D, the articulating arm problem of operator-to-operator variability in part inspection data is avoided.
