Metrology News – Published by Metrologists for Metrologists

What should have been a slow news month, given the prime vacation period, August turned out to be an incredibly busy month for the Metrology News desk. Following on from the previous month of acquisition activity August again witnessed several high profile company investments. Strategies continue to evolve and develop and product offerings enhanced to equip for the digital manufacturing revolution, and the ever-increasing role of metrology imbedded within all aspects of the smart factories of the future.

Our lead story this month is the exclusive recent interview conducted with the Sandvik executive driving their Digital Manufacturing Solutions initiatives. In addition the momentum behind Industry 4.0 adoption is gathering pace rapidly with the role and uptake of industrial robots in automated process control systems ever increasing. We featured new software, robot calibration technology and recent automotive industry installations showcasing just how far robotic automated metrology has come in the delivery of digital manufacturing twins.

While robotic metrology does not have the accuracy, as yet, demanded by most prismatic machining operation new non-contact sensors are increasing the possibilities for in-process metrology, with real-time adaptive control, being performed within machining cycles.

With exhibition events coming back onto the calendar it will be good to finally ‘get-out’ and physically see many of these new product innovations we have been writing about over the past 18 months. There’s so much innovation in the metrology sector in these days it’s difficult for all of us to keep abreast of all that is new in a rapidly evolving sector.

Metrology News continues its mission as the | ‘go-to’ | ‘fast-track’ | platform to stay informed.

Some 90 articles were published in the month and we highlight below in this month’s magazine selected published articles from the month. The complete library of August articles can be accessed by clicking here.

As usual I welcome your comments, news and views along with suggested guest articles for publication – my inbox is always open.
