Single Channel Lighting Controller Dramatically Simplifies 3D Image Processing
Evotron, a specialist in digital lighting controllers and LED lighting for machine vision, has introduced a world first in ring light illumination. Up to 8 separately controllable LED segments can be controlled by just one single-channel lighting controller. The development was made possible by the FPGA-based lumiSENS technology patented by evotron.
The digital LED single-channel lighting controller DCC2404 takes full control of the triggering of the camera and the synchronous control of the respective LED segments of the ring lighting. The hardware and cabling effort of the lighting arrangement alone is reduced to one eighth of conventional solutions!
With the free selection of up to 16 consecutive segment combinations, advanced 3D lighting techniques such as shape from shading and photometric stereo can now be implemented in a much simpler and very compact way. To integrate the ring lighting into machine controls, the operating parameters can be set via WLAN using a web interface, app or API.
The rapid switching between the individual LED segments of the lighting is outstanding: even at switching speeds of 10,000 Hz, the light energy from segment to segment remains constant and absolutely synchronized with the image capture (the camera trigger). In addition, the lumiSENS technology ensures that the light output of the LEDs is specifically pushed to the physical limits without damaging the LEDs. This means that for the first time, the enormous dynamic and speed potential of modern high-performance CMOS cameras can be fully utilized for moving parts.
The advantages of this innovation are numerous: process testing times are minimized, hardware costs are drastically reduced (multi-channel controllers and special cables are no longer required) and lead to significant cost savings. Space is saved in the control cabinet and machine and the digital precision enables exactly reproducible settings. Setup, installation and maintenance can thus be carried out in a very short time. evotron is thus showing how digital lighting solutions can make systems, such as for inclination-measuring 3D image processing, more powerful, simpler and more reliable.
The DCC2404 lighting controller and the LED ring lights with segment mode are available from in sizes 24 x 50, 50 x 76, 76 x 102, 102 x 128 and in the light colors R, G, B, W, IR.
