Partnership to Advance Automated Inspection in Smart Manufacturing

3D Infotech and Doosan Robotics have entered a strategic partnership aimed at advancing the role of automation in industrial inspection. By combining collaborative robotics with AI-driven metrology software, the two companies are positioning their joint offering as a fully integrated solution for production-ready quality control within smart manufacturing environments.

Under the agreement, Doosan Robotics will supply its collaborative robot (cobot) platforms, while 3D Infotech contributes its metrology automation technologies. The result is a unified inspection system designed to streamline deployment and improve scalability—two areas that have traditionally limited wider adoption of robotic inspection.

Moving Beyond Manual Inspection Constraints

At the core of the collaboration is the integration of Doosan’s cobots with 3D Infotech’s metrology automation suite. The companies have developed an end-to-end workflow in which components can be scanned, analysed and validated automatically, with minimal human intervention.

This shift addresses longstanding inefficiencies associated with manual inspection processes, which are often time-consuming and prone to variability. By contrast, automated inspection enables repeatable, high-speed measurement routines supported by real-time data analysis, helping manufacturers improve both throughput and consistency.

Addressing Smart Factory Pressures

The partnership comes at a time when manufacturers face increasing pressure to modernise quality control operations. Rising product complexity, ongoing labour shortages and the demand for full traceability are exposing the limitations of traditional inspection methods.

Rather than offering discrete hardware or software elements, the joint solution is positioned as a turnkey system. Its configurable architecture is intended to simplify implementation while enabling faster time-to-value—an important factor for manufacturers seeking to scale automation across multiple production lines.

Integration and Scalability as Key Differentiators

While robotic inspection systems are already in use across industry, challenges around system integration and deployment time remain significant barriers. The collaboration addresses this by integrating Doosan’s robot platform—via its software development kit (SDK)—into 3D Infotech’s Streamline workflows and Universal Metrology Automation (UMA) environment.

This approach enables more flexible configuration and faster deployment, while supporting consistent execution across different manufacturing environments. The companies emphasise that reducing setup complexity and improving interoperability are central to unlocking scalable inspection automation.

Key capabilities of the integrated system include industrial-grade robotic precision, automated 3D metrology workflows, real-time reporting, and the ability to scale inspection processes across multiple production settings.

Immediate Impact on Production Performance

The partners highlight several operational benefits for manufacturers adopting the system, including faster inspection cycles, reduced reliance on manual labour and improved measurement consistency. By removing operator-dependent variability, the system aims to enhance overall product quality while reducing rework and associated costs.

The solution is applicable across a range of industries, including aerospace, automotive, medical devices and electronics. Typical use cases include automated 3D scanning, first article inspection and inline quality control, all supported by traceable, audit-ready data outputs.

3D Infotech’s metrology solutions are already deployed in these sectors, while Doosan Robotics has established a global presence with installations in more than 45 countries.

Strategic Growth and Future Development

Beyond the immediate technical offering, the partnership reflects a broader strategic shift for both companies toward delivering integrated, system-level solutions rather than standalone products. By combining Doosan’s global robotics footprint with 3D Infotech’s expertise in metrology automation, the collaboration aims to capture new opportunities in the evolving smart manufacturing landscape.

Both organisations have indicated that the partnership will extend into future co-development initiatives, with plans to expand their portfolios of intelligent automation solutions and increase their presence in global markets.

Johan Cruz, President and CEO of 3D Infotech, described the collaboration as part of the company’s wider commitment to advancing intelligent manufacturing. Kevin Min-pyo Kim, CEO of Doosan Robotics, emphasised its role in strengthening the company’s AI robotics strategy across both U.S. and international markets.

As manufacturers continue to prioritise digital transformation, partnerships of this kind highlight the growing convergence between robotics, metrology and AI—an intersection that is likely to play a defining role in the next phase of industrial automation.
