InnovMetric Celebrates 30 Years of Shaping Metrology Industry
If InnovMetric, maker of the PolyWorks smart 3D metrology digital ecosystem, is now recognized as an organization of international standing with a list of distinctions to its name, it is thanks to the perseverance and dedication of its co-founders, Marc Soucy and Esther Bouliane, as well as its hundreds of hardworking employees.
The Idea That Started It All
Back in 1992, when Marc Soucy graduated from Laval University with his doctorate in electrical engineering, starting a business was not initially in the cards. After he had published a pioneering technique for meshing point clouds of complex objects into polygonal models, his life partner and future business associate Esther Bouliane encouraged him to commercialize some of his innovative technologies in the hope of developing a point-cloud-processing software. Following her sound advice, the duo co-founded InnovMetric in 1994, the parent organization of the PolyWorks subsidiaries.
Not long after its inauguration, InnovMetric launched its first product, IMCompress, then considered by many to be the best polygon reduction algorithm for detailed surface triangulations. This would be the first of many innovations that would revolutionize the field of metrology. It was with the release of its flagship software, PolyWorks, in the late 1990s, that the Quebec City-based organization really started to gain momentum. Toyota became one of its first major clients with the acquisition of an initial batch of 150 licenses, which contributed to propelling InnovMetric’s growth and market presence.
Three-Decade Journey
Thirty years later, InnovMetric stands as an industry leader in providing solutions to an impressive client base, including the world’s 100 largest manufacturers. Among them are leading-edge corporations like Tesla, Airbus, Rolls-Royce, Boeing, John Deere, and General Motors, all leveraging the smart digital ecosystem for their complex 3D measurement processes.
