UR Certified Optical Laser Seam Tracking Welding Sensors

Garmo Instruments’ has announced that its team spent more than two years developing and testing the sensor, with only one idea in mind, to create an easy-to-use seam tracking laser sensor. GarLine claims to be the first smart, intuitive and robust sensor in the market. Its integration on cobots for welding sector, follows the philosophy of simplifying industrial automation.

After successfully passing all the testing and verification processes, GarLine sensors are now products officially certified by Universal Robots.

Its multifunctional URCap allows controlling sensor parameters, facilitating easy installation and integration. Some of the main features GarLine sensors can offer, combining with Universal Robots are:

Vision Programming: The positioning of the torch during programming is calculated by the sensor, reducing in this way process time and operators’ required skills for task performance.

Seam Finding: The sensor finds the right teach points of the welding parts before the weld in order to compensate the part deviation. In other words, while robot is moving to get into welding position, sensor detects the key points to enhance this welding process (avoiding the need of the operator to position the torch on the welding point).

Seam Tracking: The programming of complex shapes is a consuming task since usually, most of the teaching points have to be marked in first place and the seam tracking has to be done manually and precisely. With the seam tracking solution, just teaching the starting and the end point of the seam is enough, for the sensor perfectly detects seam shape any possible variations and can easily adapt the welding to these conditions.

This integration represents a breakthrough in automated welding, marking a milestone in cooperative welding. Due to the increasing shortage of welders, companies are increasingly opting for the automated welding solution. GarLine takes a step forward, especially in the for low volume high-mix welding applications. Due to this sensor and cobot combination welds have improved quality with less waste and a significant decrease in production costs observed.
