Corning Join Laser Scanning for Augmented Reality Alliance

Corning Incorporated has announced it has joined the newly established Laser Scanning for Augmented Reality (LaSAR) Alliance.

The LaSAR Alliance is the newest member program of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Industry Standards and Technology Organization, an international federation of leading industry groups dedicated to the advancement and promotion of standardized technologies in the electro-technical sector.

“LaSAR welcomes Corning to the Alliance and looks forward to their contributions in building the solid foundation on which we can all drive the growth of augmented reality wearable devices through laser beam scanning solutions,” said Dr. Bharath Rajagopalan, chair of the LaSAR Alliance, and director, Strategic Marketing at STMicroelectronics.

LaSAR was established to create an ecosystem enabling the efficient design and manufacture of augmented reality wearable devices, including smart glasses and head-mounted displays. The alliance aims to facilitate the exchange and sharing of information; create, build, and grow effective and compelling laser beam scanning-based solutions; and help drive growth across the augmented reality wearables market.

“Corning is proud to support the advancement of industry standards by participating in LaSAR’s ecosystem,” said Quentin Hayet, augmented reality solutions product line manager, Corning Incorporated. “As a world-leading supplier of advanced glass innovations for consumer electronics, we believe in the potential applications for augmented and mixed reality devices. We’re investing in emerging technologies and developing new solutions designed to accelerate market adoption – and we look forward to advancing our initiatives in collaboration with the alliance.”
