Collaborative Robot Offers Built-In Color Camera To Support Inspection Operations
OMRON has announced the availability of the OMRON TM S Series collaborative robots, designed for diverse applications across multiple industries. These cobots introduce advanced hardware, more safety features and certifications, and next-generation configuration capabilities, making them easier to use than ever before.
Responding to manufacturers’ needs for enhanced performance and safety in human-collaborative settings, the TM S Series offers four models, with payload capabilities from 5 kg to 14 kg and reach from 700 mm to 1300 mm. Various mounting types are possible, including use on a mobile robot to create a mobile manipulator (MoMa) solution. Each cobot has six rotating joints operating with ±0.03 mm repeatability, providing six degrees of freedom with an average speed of between 1.1 and 1.4 m/s.
Built-In Color Camera Supports Inspection Operations
Models are available with and without built-in 1.2M/5M pixel color cameras, or users can optionally use 2 GigE 2D cameras for applications requiring greater resolution. Joint J6, which is the camera joint at the end of the cobot arm, can move at 450°/s—which is the fastest in the industry and is four times faster than the previous model—supporting improved inspection operations.
With a total of 31 specific safety features, and 12 of those added for this new generation, these cobots are safer and ready to integrate with a wide variety of safety devices and switch configurations, without the need for an external safety controller in many applications. The OMRON TMS S Series cobots are inherently safe for operating in workspaces shared with people, but additional safety sensors or other provisions may be required based on configured speeds and an application risk assessment.
The TM S Series cobots are certified to meet ISO 13849-1 PLd Cat 3 and ISO 10218-1 safety standards, and they are designed to carry UL/CSA/KC certifications. The robots also carry an IP54 rating for both the arm and control box (AC version only), and they are designed with protections that make them suitable for use in an ISO 3 cleanroom, or where they may be exposed to cutting oil.
Connectivity options include analog/digital signals, HDMI, Ethernet LAN, USB, RS232, Ethernet, and Modbus TCP/RTU master/slave, with additional options for PROFINET and EtherNet/IP. They operate on 100-240VAC 50-60Hz, with power consumptions varying based on size.
Programming is simplified with the next-gen Robot Stick control, which transforms into a full teach pendant with a touchscreen display. Hand guidance programming and TMFlow flowchart-based graphical programming cater to both novice and advanced users.
Compact and adaptable, the OMRON TM S Series cobots can be effortlessly relocated for various tasks using their built-in cameras and landmark positioning. These cobots are ideal for changing the way factories work in industries including logistics, consumer packaged goods, life sciences, and more, and they can be used for assembly, palletizing, machine tending, packaging, pick-and-place, and many other tasks.
