Automated and Portable 3D Measurement Solutions for Digital Manufacturing

Creaform has announced its participation at Hannover Messe. The latest 3D measurement technologies will be presented there which, in the field of Industry 4.0 and digital manufacturing, help manufacturers to design and manufacture better quality products, while reducing lead times and costs.

The future of quality control in smart factories begins with the use of new approaches to quality control, including the use of portable or automated dimensional inspection systems directly on the production line.

Advantages of Portable 3D Scanners

With a 3D optical measurement solution, manufacturers have a fast, portable, accurate and versatile instrument for measuring, testing and validating parts and components during iterative product development processes, as well as during quality control and maintenance. Additionally, a color palette can be used to quickly identify discrepancies between a part and its CAD file. The software displays the results in a clear and intuitive way, which facilitates the analysis. Unlike probing measurement, 3D scanning displays an overview of the inspected part and measures surface profiles, not just individual points.

With the portable 3D scanners Go!SCAN 3D, HandySCAN 3D and MetraSCAN 3D and the 3D measurement software VXelements, Creaform provides the tools that the industry needs to perform precise measurements directly in the production environment.

Online and Offline Metrology Solutions

Many manufacturers are turning to online and offline metrology solutions, including 3D scanners, to automate their inspections and quality control. Solutions such as Creaform’s MetraSCAN 3D-R robot-mounted optical 3D scanner and CUBE-R, a fully customizable, turnkey, automated 3D scanning CMM, are game changers and enable manufacturers to perform quality control fully automated.

Automated 3D measurement solutions are used for a wide variety of different applications, including in-process inspections of parts and tools, online and offline ISPs, inspections of supplier parts before they go into production and the digitization of quality control records for archiving, traceability and updating old plans.

“Hannover Messe is for us an important platform for presenting our technologies to the manufacturing industry and winning new customers”, comments Pierre Tanguy, Sales Country Manager DACH.
