When we were looking for a more suitable 3D measurement system, one of our biggest fears was that we would invest in a solution that would be overtaken by other technologies in the near future.

Mahr MWF has developed and built a measuring machine for double-flank gear roll testing to meet the individual requirements of a customer. This machine tests the form feature concentricity deviation Fr on the internal toothing of gears. The noise development of the subsequent gearbox can then be predicted on the basis of the measurement results. This is an important aspect, particularly in electromobility.

Additive manufacturing processes have been used on a daily basis for a long time at BMW Group Plant Landshut. For many years, these have included moulds for the manufacturing of aluminium cylinder heads, which are printed three-dimensionally using the sand casting process. Here, sand is repeatedly applied in thin layers and stuck together using binders.

Machine vision offers enormous advantages for quality control applications. High accuracy and speed as well as high flexibility and availability are important for practical use. K&S Anlagenbau GmbH has implemented such an application for the beverage industry with the help of the consulting company Computer Vision Solutions. In this application the machine vision software MVTec HALCON is used.

More than 400,000 hip and knee prostheses are manufactured in Aarau each year. A large proportion of these are coated in five state-of-the-art vacuum chambers at temperatures of up to 20,000 degrees Celsius, either purely with titanium or with titanium and hydroxyapatite. The latter is a bone substitute substance that improves or stimulates the ingrowth of the bone follicles into the porous prosthetic surface.

General Inspection has installed a Gi-100DT automated inspection system (AIS) for a large manufacturer of precision aerospace fasteners.  This Gi-100DT is equipped with a total of 6 cameras providing complete dimensional inspection, internal and external visual defect detection, top and bottom surface inspection for a full range of turned aerospace collars.

Prior to implementing Elementary’s vision solution, Yamaha Motors relied on manual inspectors to verify the accuracy of warning labels placed on their ATV and ROV units, causing fatigue and high turnover among quality control personnel. Elementary helped automate the inspection process and improve traceability throughout the manufacturing process. The warning label inspection is critical for safety and is required to be in compliance with industry safety regulations.

X-ray computed tomography (CT) technology provided by Nikon IMBU has enabled optical components production powerhouse Tochigi Nikon to unlock a game-changing solution which has transformed the world of precision plastic injection moulding.
