QED Boosts Optical Metrology Capabilities Through DUI and Nanomefos Acquisition
QED Technologies International, a leader in precision optics manufacturing solutions, has acquired Dutch United Instruments (DUI), known for its Nanomefos (NMF) metrology platform.
This acquisition strengthens QEDâs global position by adding DUIâs advanced Nanomefos technology to its portfolio and establishing a European headquarters for QED Technologies in the Netherlands. The addition of non-contact, ultra-precise metrology for freeform and aspheric optics complements QEDâs existing expertise in optical manufacturing and supports the companyâs long-term growth strategy.Â
With the integration of Nanomefos into QEDâs portfolio of metrology solutions, QED continues to expand its product lines and fulfill its mission to deliver innovative, high-precision measurement tools that meet the evolving demands of the optics industry. Nanomefosâ unique capabilities for rapid, nanometer-accurate measurement of complex surfaces make it a powerful complement to QEDâs technologies such as Magnetorheological Finishing (MRF) and Subaperture Stitching Interferometry (SSI).Â
DUI and its customers will now benefit from QEDâs world-class global service and support infrastructure. QEDâs extensive network of field service engineers, applications experts, and regional offices will ensure that Nanomefos customers have access to fast, reliable service and support worldwide. Additionally, QEDâs global distribution capabilities will bring Nanomefos to a broader customer base across key markets including semiconductor, aerospace, defense, and research.Â
âBringing Nanomefosâand more importantly, DUIâinto our portfolio underscores QEDâs commitment to innovation and the strategic growth of our metrology capabilities,â said Michael Mohammadi, President and CEO of QED Technologies. âWith the Netherlands as a global hub for high-tech advancement, our new European HQ strengthens our position in optics and semiconductors. Just as importantly, weâre gaining an exceptional team whose expertise will drive next-generation precision measurement for customers worldwide.âÂ
Dutch United Instruments was founded as a spin-off of the Dutch research institute TNO and has built a reputation for high-accuracy optical measurement solutions. As part of QED Technologies, DUIâs capabilities will be supported and scaled globally.Â
âAt Demcon, we believe in bridging the gap between pioneering research and real-world applications. Nanomefos originated from TNOâs cutting-edge research and was further developed and industrialized within the Demcon group. Seeing it now enters the global stage through QED Technologies is a testament to the strength of our innovation ecosystem and our ability to nurture high-tech solutions that address complex market needsâcommented Dennis Schipper, CEO of Demcon, on the transition.
âWeâre excited to join QED Technologies,â said Gerard van den Eijkel, Managing Director of DUI. âOur shared commitment to optical innovation makes this a natural fit. With QEDâs global infrastructure behind us, we can accelerate adoption of Nanomefos and continue advancing optical metrology for complex surfaces.âÂ
