LK Metrology Expands into Industrial CT with Acquisition of ProCon X-Ray GmbH

LK Metrology, internationally recognized for its coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) and more recently its laser scanning sensor technologies, has announced the strategic acquisition of ProCon X-Ray GmbH, a specialist German manufacturer of industrial computed tomography (CT) systems. The move marks a significant expansion of LK Metrology’s capabilities, adding advanced CT imaging to its already comprehensive suite of dimensional metrology solutions.

With this acquisition, LK Metrology solidifies its position as a full-spectrum metrology provider, now offering an even broader range of high-precision inspection technologies. Customers across diverse industries will benefit from a unified portfolio that spans tactile and non-contact measurement—from traditional CMMs and portable measuring arms to state-of-the-art laser scanners and now, industrial X-ray and CT inspection systems.

Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Sarstedt, Germany, ProCon X-Ray has built a strong reputation for developing high-resolution, modular CT and X-ray systems tailored for both industrial and scientific applications. The company is known for its innovative use of focus X-ray technology and its flexible hardware and software configurations, enabling precise internal and external inspection of complex components. ProCon systems are widely used in industries including automotive, aerospace, electronics, medical devices, and materials research.

The acquisition enables LK Metrology to offer enhanced value to customers by providing integrated solutions from a single source. The two companies plan to collaborate closely to further develop ProCon’s existing CT product lines and drive the creation of next-generation metrology solutions that combine CT imaging with traditional coordinate measurement and scanning technologies.

Joachim Gudat and Angelo Muscarella

Commenting on the acquisition, Angelo Muscarella, CEO of LK Metrology, stated: “With the acquisition of ProCon X-Ray, we are strengthening our position as a leading, full-service provider in metrology. Industrial CT imaging perfectly complements our existing CMM and scanning technologies.”

Nikolas Westphal, Managing Director of ProCon X-Ray GmbH added, “We are pleased to become part of the international LK Group and, through its outstanding global presence, to make our market-leading products accessible to a significantly wider customer base.”

This acquisition not only enhances LK Metrology’s technological offering but also reflects the growing importance of non-destructive testing (NDT) and 3D imaging in advanced manufacturing quality control. As metrology continues to evolve in support of smarter, more connected factories, the addition of CT imaging positions LK to meet the future demands of digital inspection and digital twin strategies.
