Predicting Surface Quality Using Artificial Intelligence

The use of optical free-form surfaces allows complex lens systems to be simplified and thus made more compact and weight-optimized. In addition, the use of optical freeform surfaces enables the realization of completely new functionalities. At the same time, their manufacturing process is complex and therefore time-consuming and expensive. The production of individual freeforms in small batch sizes can be carried out efficiently using a CNC machine.

How AI Is Helping Bridge Skill Gaps In Manufacturing

The Siemens Industrial Copilot has two facets. Schoenherr has focused on using the engineering copilot, which helps him create the automation code that directs the machine’s operation. The second is the operations copilot. It allows workers and engineers to communicate with the machine while it is operating. If one step in the process is not working, the operator can ask the Siemens Industrial Copilot what is wrong by typing in a question.

Deep Learning For Real-Time Quality Control

The International Center for Networked, Adaptive Production (ICNAP) comprising of three Fraunhofer Institutes will be presenting an AI-supported analysis system for visual quality control at the SPS trade fair in Nuremberg, Germany. ICNAP will demonstrate how deep learning can be used to check weld seams on battery cell mod-ules for defects in real time.
