450 kV Compact CT System Designed For Dense Parts Launched
RX Solutions, specialist in high‑resolution industrial computed tomography (CT), has expanded its EasyTom L platform line with the EasyTom L 450, the first compact system to combine a 450 kV meso‑focus source (40 µm resolution) with a 150 kV micro‑focus source (5 µm resolution) in one very compact and easy to install platform. The CT system delivers the energy required for dense or complex assembly metal parts while preserving high‑resolution capability for fine‑detail inspection, giving laboratories and production sites unprecedented flexibility. The EasyTom L450 strengthens RX Solutions’ position as an innovative market leader meeting the ever-evolving needs of customers.
High Energy Meets High Resolution
At the heart of EasyTom L 450 is a 450 kV meso-focus generator, designed to meet the challenges of inspecting dense components made of steel, nickel, copper, titanium or special alloys, or multi-material parts, often used in the aerospace, automotive, additive manufacturing or foundry sectors.
With a spatial resolution as low as 40 µm, it reveals internal structures of high-density parts such as nickel-based turbine blades, battery modules, or assembled enclosures.
For projects that demand more detail, the system can be fitted with a second 150 kV micro-focus tube (5 µm resolution), mounted on the same axis. Changing from one tube to another can be done instantly with a click on the mouse. This seamless dual-source capability enables multi-scale inspections in a single system, optimising both time and image quality.
“By combining high 450kV energy and high resolution, the EasyTom L 450 is the perfect system for supporting the development of electric cars, for checking batteries as well as motors and power boards. It is also an invaluable ally for checking or optimizing the production of high added-value parts produced by metal additive manufacturing, and for which studies show that computed tomography is the most effective non-destructive testing method. The fact that we have been able to integrate this technology into such a compact, easy-to-install cabin means that high-energy, high-resolution X-ray tomography is now even more accessible to manufacturers and laboratories alike,” states Roland Le Floc’h, Product Manager at RX-Solutions.
High Energy – Small Footprint.
While most 450 kV CT systems demand custom bunkers, reinforced foundations and heavy-duty infrastructure, the EasyTom L 450 has been designed with accessibility in mind:
- 2,9 m² footprint
- <7 tons total weight
- Fits through standard double doors
- Plug-and-play operation
- 1430 mm Source-to-Detector Distance for optimized geometric magnification and resolution.
The above makes the EasyTom L 450 the ideal choice for facilities looking to scale into high-energy CT without the logistical and financial burden typically associated with such power.
Designed For Tomorrow’s Challenges
The EasyTom L 450 is equipped with a large flat-panel detector, and for demanding applications, it can be upgraded with an optimized LineScan detector. Switch from Flat Panel to LineScan detector in a single click and enjoy sharper images, optimised contrast and reduced scattering artefacts. The ideal solution for ultra-precise inspection.
Whether validating production lots, analysing failure modes, or conducting high-throughput quality control, the EasyTom L 450’s acquisition and reconstruction pipeline is built for speed. In parallel, a library of automation tools, from macros to open API scripting, gives users control over batch routines, report exports, and MES connectivity.
The integrated OPC-UA industrial communications protocol also enables seamless integration into smart factory environments, or interfacing with robotic loading solutions.
New processing algorithms complete the configuration, delivering unrivalled image quality on parts that were previously considered difficult to image.
The EasyTom L 450 was developed for manufacturers, quality labs, and R&D centers seeking high-energy performance without compromise. Built on a granite-based, vibration-free architecture and supported by RX Solutions’ proprietary reconstruction software, it ensures robust, high-throughput CT performance with repeatable accuracy, even on the heaviest and most attenuating samples.
The system supports:
- Samples up to Ø 485 × 585 mm
- Load capacity up to 80 kg
- Robotic or manual loading workflows
- Multi-part scanning routines without operator intervention
