VisiConsult Acquires DEMA to Strengthen X-Ray System Capabilities
In a strategic move to secure supply chain reliability and expand its portfolio of premium X-ray solutions, VisiConsult X-ray Systems & Solutions GmbH has announced the acquisition of DEMA Dieter Enghausen Maschinenbau GmbH, a renowned Hamburg-based manufacturer of high-quality radiation protection cabins. The acquisition marks a significant step for VisiConsult in consolidating its position as a leading provider of advanced X-ray systems while preserving DEMA’s legacy of German engineering excellence.
All 25 employees of DEMA will retain their positions under the new ownership structure, and the company will continue to operate independently—now under the new name DEMA Machinery GmbH. VisiConsult CEO Lennart Schulenburg emphasized that the acquisition was made with a long-term vision in mind. “With the acquisition of DEMA, we want to achieve long-term delivery reliability at competitive conditions. Due to increasing regulatory requirements, the number of qualified suppliers of very large X-ray cabins in particular is declining worldwide” adds Lars Grebien, Head of Operations at VisiConsult and newly appointed Managing Director of DEMA.
A Strategic Synergy with Market-Wide Benefits
DEMA’s product portfolio is highly complementary to VisiConsult’s X-ray inspection systems. The company is especially well-regarded for its custom radiation-shielded cabins, capable of shielding up to 600 kV, including oversized installations up to 12 meters in length for applications such as aircraft tail unit inspections and pipeline systems. DEMA also manufactures manipulators, augers, and conveyor screws, further extending the capabilities of automated inspection environments.
One of the immediate benefits of the acquisition is that VisiConsult customers can now purchase fully optimized X-ray booths directly from the manufacturer, streamlining procurement and integration processes. Importantly, Schulenburg stressed that the new ownership structure will not restrict access to DEMA products for VisiConsult’s competitors. “There is a clear separation between DEMA and VisiConsult, our competitors can continue to purchase DEMA solutions and benefit from economies of scale” explained Schulenburg.
Continuity and Vision for Growth
Lars Grebien, Head of Operations at VisiConsult and now also Managing Director of DEMA, will co-lead the company with Oliver Arendt, DEMA’s long-serving officer. Their combined expertise is expected to strengthen DEMA’s operations while ensuring continuity in customer relationships and engineering practices.
Founded four decades ago by Dieter Enghausen, DEMA has maintained its standing as a family-owned business known for quality craftsmanship and tailored engineering. The acquisition by VisiConsult not only secures the company’s future but also resolves succession planning in a way that retains all current employees and honors DEMA’s legacy.
Addressing Industry Challenges
In the context of increasing global regulatory demands, particularly in aerospace, defense, and energy sectors. the availability of reliable, high-quality X-ray cabins is becoming more limited. With fewer qualified manufacturers capable of building large-scale shielding solutions, this acquisition enables VisiConsult to insulate itself from supply constraints while also supporting industry-wide access to critical infrastructure.
This move reinforces a growing trend in the non-destructive testing (NDT) and industrial metrology space, where vertical integration and supply chain consolidation are being leveraged to increase agility, quality, and delivery speed. For companies operating in safety-critical industries, such partnerships offer a pathway to more robust and compliant inspection systems.
Looking Ahead
As DEMA Machinery GmbH enters a new chapter under the VisiConsult umbrella, the focus will remain on delivering world-class radiation protection cabins and mechanical solutions, while exploring synergies with VisiConsult’s leading-edge X-ray technologies. The shared vision between the two companies aims to not only secure their own futures but also strengthen the entire ecosystem of industrial X-ray inspection.
This acquisition is more than just a strategic alignment – it is a blueprint for how metrology and NDT companies can adapt to changing market dynamics, technological demands, and regulatory landscapes by fostering collaboration, preserving expertise, and investing in quality at every level.
