VICIVISION Expands Optical Metrology Capabilities With Launch of X-360

For more than a decade, VICIVISION has specialized in developing optical measuring systems for turned and cylindrical parts across a wide range of industries. By leveraging non-contact inspection, the company’s solutions significantly reduce measurement times while boosting throughput and yield.

VICIVISION optical systems capture the external profile of cylindrical components, both statically and dynamically, within seconds. From diameters, lengths, and threads to complex form errors, the technology delivers precision at speed.

These capabilities have gained strong adoption among dental implant and micro-mechanical manufacturers, driving VICIVISION to design product lines specifically for these demanding sectors. High-resolution imaging, combined with enhanced ergonomics for handling small components, has proven particularly valuable in these industries.

However, in a fast-changing manufacturing landscape, manufacturers face the challenge of investing in systems that offer both flexibility and long-term capability. While machines designed exclusively for small components can quickly reach their limits, a solution that combines wide measurement range with uncompromising resolution and accuracy offers a more future-proof choice.

X-360 Crossover System

The new VICIVISION X-360 is a crossover system that combines ultra-high resolution with a large measurement volume (300 x 60 mm). It brings the same resolution traditionally reserved for dental implant inspection into a wider field of view—ideal for precision parts produced on Swiss-type lathes and multi-spindle machines.

This innovation allows dental implant manufacturers to measure both very small components and larger parts, such as those used in spinal and orthopedic surgery, with a single instrument. Micro-mechanical producers also benefit from the ability to measure fine features—such as small radii, bevels, grooves, and threads—while maintaining the flexibility to inspect larger geometries.

Full Image Functionality

A defining feature of the X-360 is VICIVISION’s exclusive ‘full image’ capability, which captures the entire profile of a loaded part at maximum resolution. All dimensional data is stored alongside the complete profile image, enabling future re-analysis without the need to remeasure the physical component. This provides a powerful tool for traceability, process validation, and customer documentation.

Ergonomics and Precision Handling

The X-360 has been engineered with a strong focus on ergonomics and ease of use. A wide, well-lit front opening ensures simple and unobstructed loading—even for the smallest components. Preventive maintenance requirements have been reduced through the use of stainless-steel optical housings, which resist contamination and are easier to clean.

The system’s upper tailstock employs low-friction bearings to minimize rotational slip under delicate clamping conditions, protecting sensitive parts from deformation. For components without centering holes, a wide selection of fixturing options is available.

Automation and Closed-Loop Control

To support advanced manufacturing environments, the X-360 can be equipped with automated I/O communication, pneumatic fixturing (chuck and tailstock), and robotic integration capabilities. The system also interfaces with MES and SPC platforms for streamlined production workflows.

For closed-loop manufacturing, VICIVISION’s VVLinx communication software enables real-time feedback between the measuring system and machine tools. Measurement data is processed and automatically translated into tool offsets, ensuring parts remain within tolerance while supporting predictive tooling management.

“From automotive to high-precision medical device manufacturing, the X-360 combines high-resolution imaging with a wide field of view to deliver unmatched flexibility across industries,” commented Erick Fantini, Sales Director at VICIVISION.
