Strada Microscope Merges Intelligence with Precision

Renishaw, a global leader in engineering and scientific technology, has unveiled its latest innovation — the Strada Intelligent Raman Microscope — representing a significant step forward in accessible, high-performance chemical and material analysis.

Designed to bridge the gap between research-grade performance and everyday usability, the Strada system combines exceptional optical precision, chemical discrimination, and an intuitive, guided interface. The result is a Raman microscope that makes advanced chemical and structural characterization practical for both industrial users and multi-user laboratories.

Precision Meets Accessibility

At the heart of the Strada microscope is a comprehensive optical imaging platform that enables users to survey large sample areas, identify regions of interest, and conduct detailed micro-scale analyses with ease. In macroscopic imaging mode, users can rapidly explore wide surfaces, while a motorised objective turret and 8-megapixel camera provide both optical and digital zoom for high-fidelity observation of microscopic features.

The system delivers high sensitivity, outstanding resolution, and remarkable speed—attributes that stem from Renishaw’s decades-long leadership in Raman instrumentation, dating back to its first spectrometer launched in 1992. Strada’s advanced detection technology allows users to confidently measure sub-micrometre particles, weak Raman scatterers, and trace contaminants, achieving spectral resolution better than 1 cm⁻¹ and spatial resolution down to 250 nm. Innovative scanning routines deliver data collection rates exceeding 1,000 spectra per second, enabling rapid Raman imaging of large areas up to several centimetres in size.

Simplified Workflows with Raman Workspace

Strada is powered by Renishaw’s new Raman Workspace software, which offers a seamless workflow from data acquisition to interpretation. The interface integrates macroscopic and microscopic viewing modes, and leverages algorithmic and AI-driven processing tools that guide users to optimal measurement parameters. Even operators without advanced spectroscopy expertise can achieve accurate and reproducible results within minutes—supported by an intuitive, tutorial-based setup experience.

Controlled by Renishaw’s new Raman Workspace software, the Strada microscope offers a seamless workflow from data acquisition to analysis. The software integrates macroscopic and microscopic viewing modes, along with powerful algorithmic and AI-driven tools for data processing. Users are guided to optimal measurement settings and supported in interpreting their results, eliminating the need for advanced spectroscopy expertise.

Customizable templates further simplify repetitive analyses across multiple sample batches, while flexible reporting tools allow users to present results with clarity and consistency.

Confidence in Performance and Compliance

Strada has been engineered for reliability and consistency. Automated performance optimisation routines maintain precise instrument alignment and calibration, ensuring day-to-day measurement accuracy. Integrated telemetry and predictive maintenance capabilities enable maximum system uptime, with optional remote servicing providing proactive technical support.

To support users in regulated industries, such as pharmaceuticals and advanced materials, Strada also complies with 21 CFR Part 11 requirements for electronic data integrity and traceability.

Expanding Industrial Applications

According to Tim Smith, Renishaw’s Head of Raman Products and Applications, “The Strada intelligent Raman microscope redefines what’s possible in industrial analysis, establishing a new benchmark for operational excellence. Its advanced capabilities and intuitive interface unlock previously inaccessible markets, making Raman microscopy practical and beneficial for problem solving in a wide range of industries including chemical, pharmaceutical, polymer and semiconductor. With the Strada system, users gain rapid, reliable access to chemical and structural information — accelerating their material development projects and providing detailed understanding of material quality.”

With the launch of the Strada system, Renishaw continues to advance the boundaries of Raman spectroscopy — enabling faster, more reliable access to chemical and structural information that supports innovation in materials science and manufacturing quality control.
