Hexagon Enhances CT Data Analysis with Award-Winning Porosity & Inclusion Tool
Hexagon has announced the release of VG Software 2025.3, bringing significant improvements to its industry-leading CT-scan data analysis platform. Central to this update is the newly redesigned Porosity & Inclusion Analysis (PIA) tool, which earlier this year received the 2025 iF Design Award for its user-friendly interface.
The PIA tool has long been valued by aerospace, automotive, and other high-reliability industries for its ability to detect pores, inclusions, and material inconsistencies hidden deep within manufactured parts. With its latest redesign, now powered by AI-assisted functionality, the tool combines all previous methods into a single workflow—making it easier for both experts and newcomers to conduct complex analyses efficiently and with greater clarity.
“We’ve completely redesigned the user interface for this feature to make it easier for everyone—from beginners to experts—to employ the PIA to understand their results and conduct even the most complex analyses easily, accurately, and efficiently,” explains Jan Gräser, Product Manager, VG Product Line, Manufacturing Intelligence Division.
Key Benefits of the New Porosity & Inclusion Analysis:
Intuitive Interface: Core settings are immediately visible, while advanced options are organized on separate tabs for clarity.
Streamlined Workflow: All porosity/inclusion analysis procedures are now integrated in one solution, eliminating the need to switch between multiple dialogs.
Simplified Navigation: An interactive minimap and consolidated preview allow users to keep track of position and key data during analysis.
The redesign enables engineers to move seamlessly from analysis to reporting within a unified environment, reducing time and improving usability in quality assurance workflows.
Additional Enhancements in VG Software 2025.3
Beyond the award-winning PIA tool, the latest release introduces several features that expand the software’s capabilities for inspection and measurement:
Multipart Coordinate Measurement: Users can now manage measurement plans across multiple parts from one central workspace, with built-in statistics, interactive plotting, and editing functions.
Direct 3D Dimensioning: Dimensioning can now be created and modified directly in the 3D view by simply dragging and dropping measurement lines, with options for projected dimensions for improved visualization.
Improved Deformation Field Handling for Optical SScans: Enhanced algorithms better accommodate incomplete or one-sided scans, addressing common challenges in optical data alignment.
Expanded Mesh Import/Export: Support for GLB/GLTF, AMF, and 3MF file formats simplifies data exchange, particularly for additive manufacturing and visualization applications.
Streamlining Non-Destructive Evaluation
According to Dr. Daniela Handl, General Manager VG, Manufacturing Intelligence Division, the focus of this release is efficiency:
“Our goal with the redesigned Porosity & Inclusion Analysis feature, as well as others in version 2025.3, is to streamline the way our users work with our software, helping them make decisions about design and manufacturing parameters faster and more efficiently. These robust capabilities will improve workflows and elevate the non-destructive evaluation process for a wide variety of manufacturers who employ 3D CT scanning for quality assurance.”
With its combination of advanced defect detection, intuitive usability, and broadened interoperability, Hexagon’s VG Software 2025.3 strengthens its position as a key tool for non-destructive testing (NDT), quality assurance, and digital manufacturing.
