GelSight Releases Mobile 4.3 Software with Enhanced 3D Visualization and Curved-Surface Defect Detection
GelSight has announced the release of GelSight Mobile 4.3, a software update that expands the capabilities of its mobile surface inspection platform with advanced 3D visualization, improved defect detection for curved surfaces, and broader automation support.
The new release addresses a growing need among manufacturers to inspect increasingly complex geometries with greater speed, consistency, and measurement confidence. By combining a redesigned 3D rendering engine with enhanced analysis tools, GelSight Mobile 4.3 enables more quantitative, repeatable surface inspection across both planar and non-planar parts.
Advancing 3D Visualization and Surface Insight
At the core of the update is a new high-performance 3D rendering engine designed to provide clearer and more detailed visualization of surface features. The improved rendering allows users to better interpret fine surface characteristics and analyze defects with higher precision. New visualization tools, including custom 3D cropping, allow targeted inspection of specific surface regions, helping focus analysis on critical areas of interest.
These enhancements are intended to move inspection workflows further away from subjective visual evaluation toward data-driven decision-making, particularly in applications where surface quality plays a critical functional or aesthetic role.
Expanded Defect Detection for Curved Surfaces
A key addition in GelSight Mobile 4.3 is the expansion of defect detection algorithms to support curved and non-planar surfaces. Traditional surface inspection methods often struggle with complex geometries, requiring manual interpretation or multiple inspection steps. The enhanced defect detection capability enables manufacturers to apply consistent inspection criteria across complex parts, improving repeatability and reducing operator variability.
Additional new measurement capabilities include circular profile roughness measurements, further extending the platform’s applicability to cylindrical and curved components commonly found in automotive, aerospace, medical, and precision manufacturing environments.
Focus on Automation and Measurement Confidence
According to GelSight, the update reflects direct customer feedback and an ongoing emphasis on automation and usability.
“With GelSight Mobile 4.3, we’re continuing our focus on automation, usability, and measurement confidence,” said Dennis Lang, Chief Business Officer at GelSight. “The new 3D rendering and curved-surface defect detection capabilities enable customers to inspect more complex parts with greater speed, consistency, and trust in the data.”
Together, the new visualization and defect detection tools support faster analysis, improved repeatability, and streamlined one-touch reporting—particularly for challenging geometries where conventional inspection approaches may fall short.
Comprehensive Measurement and Analysis Toolkit
In addition to the new features, GelSight Mobile 4.3 includes the platform’s full suite of measurement and analysis tools, as well as expanded automation capabilities. These include API support, profile and surface roughness measurements, offset measurement, scratch and pit detection, particle counting, profile geometry analysis, hole diameter measurement, and shot peen coverage evaluation.
The software also supports advanced workflows such as stitch mode, replica measurement with image transformation, AI-assisted analysis tools, customizable functions and pass/fail limits, and a broad set of 2D measurement tools.
