AT Sensors Launches High-Power 3D Laser Sensor for Extreme Industrial Environments
AT Sensors has expanded its modular 3D sensor portfolio with the introduction of the MCS High-Power Laser, a next-generation solution designed to deliver reliable, high-precision measurements in the harshest industrial environments.
Positioned as the ‘turbo’ model of the company’s MCS sensor series, the new system integrates a high-performance laser module that pushes beyond the technical limitations of standard 3D sensors. The innovation enables precise and stable 3D scanning at high speeds, across long working distances, and under challenging ambient conditions – including direct sunlight, reflective hot metals, and outdoor infrastructure environments.
The new MCS High-Power Laser is designed specifically for demanding industrial applications where high scan rates, large working distances or scan widths, and challenging lighting conditions, such as direct sunlight, are part of everyday operations. Typical use cases include measuring road surfaces on freeways and highways, inspecting railway infrastructure, and checking steel or aluminum components in both cold and hot conditions.
The newly developed laser unit delivers a maximum optical output of 2.5 watts – seventeen times more powerful than the standard version. This enables stable, precise 3D scans even in intense ambient light, such as outdoors in direct sunlight, or when inspecting hot, reflective metal surfaces.
The sensor also supports significantly greater working distances and an exceptionally wide scan width of up to 2.8 meters, making it ideal for large-scale measurement tasks in industries like steel manufacturing or road surface inspection.
The High-Power Laser is currently available in four wavelength variants (660, 450, 760, and 808 nm). Like all MCS series sensors, it is fully modular and can be tailored precisely to each customer’s application using the AT MCS Configurator. This makes the modular 3D sensor series a particularly flexible and future-proof solution for businesses with the highest demands on speed, precision, and integration capability.
The advantages of the new MCS High-Power Laser include:
- Maximum laser power for stable 3D scans even in extreme ambient light or with red-hot components
- Large scan widths and working distances for efficient measurement of large objects
- Modular design for customized configurations and maximum application versatility
