Smart Phone 3D Scanner Receives Kickstart Funding
A Kickstarter campaign by Revopoint POP 3D scanner has raised more than US$2.3 million from more than 6.400 backers – of course, Revopoint POP is not the first 3D scanner to be successfully funded through a crowdfunding platform.
POP is a consumer-grade high-precision 3D scanner developed by experts at Revopoint from Shenzhen, China. Compared to existing products in the market, POP has the advantages of high precision and low power consumption while offering an affordable price. Simultaneously, it has multi-terminal coverage enabling it to be used with mobile phones, notebooks, or computers.
The Revopoint POP 3D Scanner is designed with binocular structured light to ensures that the acquired 3D point cloud data features delivers accuracy. The highest single-frame accuracy can reach 0.3mm. This device supports both high-precision and texture scanning modes, which allows users to directly generate vivid 3D models for color 3D printing.
While conventional 3D scanners use complex software which can be intimidating, Revopoint POP 3D Scanner is extremely inclusive incorporating constant reminders of the scanning progress and results, with all relevant progress and information is displayed on the software interface in real time.
Revopoint POP 3D Scanner is no bigger than a smartphone, with a weight of just 200g. POP is able to be powered with a USB3.0 power source.
Since the invention of affordable 3D printers, millions of them have entered consumers’ homes every year. However, the challenging part for 3D printing remains to be 3D modeling. Therefore, precise 3D scanning is a perfect starting point for 3D printing creativity. Besides, 3D scanners can also be used for customized product design, cultural relic conservation, VR/AR, and other applications.
Mr. Hassan Iftikhar, a product design researcher from the School of Design, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, recently designed customized facial personal protective gear for protection during the COVID-19 pandemic, using 3D scans acquired from the POP scanner. This is one of the best examples of how 3D scanners like POP can address everyday challenges using 3D scanning technology.
