October Metrology News Magazine

Editors Message:
October heralded another busy month for Metrology News with the publication of around 60 articles. It was also the month that we regularly experienced over 4000 visitors a day to the site to ‘catch up’ with all that is new in the industry. The October Metrology News editorial focus was multi-sensor technology, which allows for complete part inspection in a single part set-up with the use of different sensor technologies. Articles included “Crossing The Thin Blue Line”,Multi-Sensor CMM increased Productivity and Reduces Uncertainty” , “Measuring With a Multi-Sensor CMM at Volkswagen” and “Multi-View 3D Scanning and Processing with Smart Sensors”. Several of the largest metrology equipment suppliers have reported their quarterly results in past days and weeks; all are reporting the economic slowdown in China, trade wars and Brexit impacting their businesses. The metrology sector remain strong and vibrant but will the economic headwinds impact the sector quicker than other manufacturing equipment sectors as has always been the case during past slowdowns? Is the metrology sector now more resilient since the metrology focus has become more centric to manufacturing processes? The Italian Machine Tool Industry Association (ECIMO) has reported an 18.6% fall in new order in 2019 compared to the past year – lets hope the politicians can start to resolve their issues and we can all get back to ‘business as usual’.
