Metrologic and Kuka Form Autonomous Metrology Solution Partnership

Following the launch as a concept at last year’s Control Exhibition in Stuttgart, Germany of the award winning and very unique automated autonomous metrology solution incorporating an autonomous guided KMR iiwa vehicle a partnership between KUKA Systems Aerospace and Metrologic Group has been announced. The partnership will commercialize an enhanced, more robust version of their turnkey mobile 3D measurement solution.

The production version includes the addition of two additional axes (linear Z-axis and rotation Theta axis), offering a supplement of 1.2 m vertical rise and +/- 185° rotation with a robot load limit of 10 kg significantly increasing measurement capabilities for larger parts. Two or more autonomous stations can also work simultaneously, piloted by a single server through Wi-Fi connection.

This enhanced KMR iiwa is part of a broader KUKA Systems Aerospace strategy to offer its customers ready-to-use and easy-to-use solutions. “Our ‘Ready2_use’ products offer a more simple and enjoyable user experience. The KMR iiwa powered by Metrologic Group’s 3D inspection software suite totally fits this new strategy,” says Philippe Prat, KUKA Systems Aerospace President.

“Our partnership with KUKA Systems Aerospace illustrates our willingness to always be the trendsetter for 3D inspection innovation and work in the smart factory perspective. We offer software packages and tools that are ultra-modern, efficient, reliable and, at the same time, easy to use, whatever the industry,” says Bertrand Gili, Metrologic Group President.

The 3D measurement KMR iiwa is driven solely by Metrologic Group’s software suite (Metrolog X4 for driving the machine and the data acquisition, and Silma X4 for virtual programming) which also drives measurement execution and results analysis.

The system can be seen performing measurement function with a Faro Cobalt Scanner at the Control Exhibition on Booth 3314 Hall3.
