Handheld 3D Scanner Wins Gold Award

Artec 3D has announced that its Artec Leo 3D scanner has received Gold in the 2020 Edison Awards’ Applied Technology – AI User Experience category. Artec Leo is an AI-based handheld 3D scanner with an incredibly fast capture rate of up to 80 frames per second. Automatic on-board processing and a built-in HD display make capturing professional 3D scans in vivid color as easy as taking a video.

“It’s an honor to receive this recognition from the Edison Awards, which further highlights the great strides we’ve made in upholding the highest level of user experience within the 3D scanning industry,” said Artyom Yukhin, president, and CEO of Artec 3D. “With the Artec Leo, users can watch as data is captured in real-time, use the touch screen to rotate the scan and even point the scanner closer to an object to capture additional detail or missed areas. The user experience is extremely intuitive, and it often only takes a few minutes before newcomers and industry veterans alike are creating professional-level scans.”

Artec Leo provides a rare blend of ease-of-use, accuracy and speed. An industry-leading capture rate, large field of view and true wireless mobility make capturing objects both large and small a quick task. The scanner’s use of hybrid geometry and texture tracking also means that valuable time isn’t wasted applying and removing targets from objects. In addition to watching scans come to life on the built-in screen, users also have the option of streaming video to a second device via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. With a 3D point accuracy of up to 0.1 mm and 3D resolution of up to 0.5 mm, the Artec Leo can capture even the most intricate details efficiently. The combination of these features helped the technology stand out in this year’s awards program.

The Edison Award nominations are comprised of the best products, services, and businesses around the globe. Artec Leo was chosen as a winner by a panel of more than 3,000 leading business executives. “After a thorough review, the Edison Awards Judges recognize Artec Leo as a game-changing innovation standing out among the best new products and services launched in their category,” said Frank Bonafilia, Executive Director of the Edison Awards.

The Artec Leo and Artec’s other 3D scanning technologies are used worldwide by various industries and use-cases, including automotive, education, healthcare, reverse engineering, quality inspection, and beyond.
