The 3rd Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit will be held from 20 to 21 April 2020 at HANNOVER MESSE, industrial technology exhibition in Hannover, Germany. For 2020, the core theme is promoting global adoption of modern manufacturing technologies and standards to improve sustainability.
A joint initiative of the UAE and UNIDO, the Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit is the world’s first cross-industry and cross-functional platform that unites manufacturers, governments and non-governmental organizations, technologists, and investors to harness Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to shape the future of manufacturing and build more prosperous and sustainable industrial enterprises and societies in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
At past events the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit has attracted more than 3,000 leaders from government, business and civic organizations. Partners include Siemens, General Electric, IBM, Honeywell, and Rockwell Automation.
“The German industrial sector is one of the cornerstones of the German economy and it has a leading position on the global stage,” said Peter Altmaier, Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy. “With our clear leadership in developing Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies and the development of effective strategies for its adoption in all aspects of life, Germany is proud to host the Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit in 2020 and to welcome the world to a global gathering that will contribute to shaping a comprehensive and sustainable course for the manufacturing sector to achieve economic and social prosperity across the world.”
Dr. Jochen Köckler, Chairman of the Managing Board, Deutsche Messe AG, added, “Manufacturing is a big part of the global economy, not only as a generator of capital, but also as an important source of jobs and taxes. Digitalization and globalization, however, are challenging manufacturers to adapt at an increasingly rapid pace. We are pleased to welcome the Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit to HANNOVER MESSE in 2020, because it addresses exactly these topics.”

The Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit (GMIS) was established in 2015 to build bridges between manufacturers, governments and NGOs, technologists, and investors in harnessing the Fourth Industrial Revolution’s (4IR) transformation of manufacturing, to enable the regeneration of the global economy. A joint initiative by the United Arab Emirates and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), GMIS is a platform that presents the manufacturing sector with an opportunity to contribute towards global good, and that is committed to bringing benefit to all. As the world’s first cross-industry initiative, GMIS offers a platform for leaders to engage on the issue of the future of manufacturing, highlighting the need for greater investment in capabilities to foster innovation and drive skills development on a global scale. Uniting key stakeholders – including world leaders, industry CEOs, and specialist researchers and academics – GMIS has placed manufacturing at the heart of economic transformation and government policy-making, promoting it as a tool for global cooperation and collaboration.
