Faro Release BuildIT 2021 Metrology Software

Faro has released BuildIT Metrology 2021 – its real-time software for alignment, inspection, and build applications. BuildIT delivers accurate management of all dimensional validation processes throughout the manufacturing lifecycle. BuildIT Metrology includes best-in-class features such as device bundling and real time visual feedback in a streamlined user interface, allowing users to position parts for high-precision assembly and alignment applications.

BuildIT Metrology is designed to support both manual and automated workflows. Automation, flexibility, and easy customization enable the streamlining of workflows by reducing operator training time and increasing efficiency. Processes are easy to create and extremely versatile. From simply recording a workflow as it is performed, to creating complex logic and modularization, BuildIT Metrology’s automation has each user’s unique processes covered.

BuildIT 2021 software represents the next evolution of the platform that simplifies workflows, improves performance and enhances ease of use. While the BuildIT 2021 suite is integrated with FARO hardware products to ensure a best-in-class FARO solution experience, it also delivers high-quality outcomes for non-FARO hardware products.

BuildIT Metrology 2021 features upgrades related to four key areas of scanning, user experience, probing and automation:

Scanning – Faster Alignments and Analyses

The latest software introduces a new ‘Fast’ setting for alignments and analyses. By trading a few microns in accuracy, the alignments and analyses can get a boost in speed. Depending on the size of the point cloud and complexity of the model, the alignments and analyses can be between 10 to a 100 times faster.

Improved User Experience – Inspection Annotations

Annotations can now be defined prior to performing any measurement. They will be computed and populated dynamically as new measurements are added. Dynamic annotations are supported for points, lines and curves, and surfaces.

Surface annotations can now be evaluated without requiring an explicit association between a geometry and measurements. The annotation will be computed using points found in its neighborhood. Computation speed of annotations has also been improved which allows updating a much higher number of annotations seamlessly as devices are relocated and realigned.

Laser Tracker Improvements

Wi-Fi connections in general can sometimes be unstable, especially in factories and other high-interference environments. BuildIT integrates the latest FARO Laser Tracker SDK to provide a more seamless experience by handling disconnections and reconnections automatically. The SDK also allows shortening the startup time by skipping the warm-up period – optimal accuracy is maintained by performing regular accuracy checks until thermal stability is attained.

GD&T

Runout and total runout GD&T tolerances are now supported with any DRF that frees the degrees of freedom required for a proper evaluation of those tolerances.

Automation

A new method for splitting clouds has been introduced where the clipping box can be moved and resized by conveniently grabbing the arrows and rings.

Auto-complete and syntax highlighting have been added in the process editor to streamline writing automated processes; tooltips can also be displayed for providing documentation on the go. The search area for doing a spiral search with a FARO Laser Tracker can now be defined using the radius only with the distance parameter computed and updated dynamically.

BuildIT Projector 2021

The latest BuildIT Projector 2021 software comes complete with an enhanced user interface and includes instant projection – a feature optimised for low production environments and one-off workflows. With no planning needed, it is the fastest way to go from importing the CAD model to projection.

BuildIT Projector 2021 also features the ability to:

– Pick alignment points on the fly –The Faro TracerSI lets you align directly to features on the part. For those workflows, all users have to do is pick an alignment point, coordinate from the CAD, aim the scanbox at it, scan, and accept if the contrast is good enough.

– Operator gamepad remote & mobile remote – One gamepad remote can control multiple projectors, allowing the operator to spend more time assembling and less time walking back and forth from the computer station. Mobile remote has several new features and contains all the controls needed to run an alignment routine.

– Unparalleled automation – These capabilities can now be leveraged as part of a projection plan, as layers have a Layer Process property, which specifies which process should be automatically launched when the operator reaches this layer.
