Aberlink To Debut Linear Drive CMM

Aberlink will have a new linear drive CNC CMM making its debut at the upcoming Control Exhibition.  Named the Horizon CMM, it breaks new ground in design and innovation and will enable Aberlink to further extend its horizon into the high-end CMM market place.

Linear motors provide a frictionless maintenance free drive system with exceptional stiffness. However, the drawback of linear motors is that they produce heat along their entire length: heat is the nemesis of metrology and having a heat source along an entire axis is normally disastrous. Aberlink have overcome this by thermally isolating it far from the metrology platform, and then using a unique kinematic isolated drive mechanism to transfer the motor thrust to the centre of gravity of each axis. This results in no acceleration induced metrology errors, thus creating the first linear drive CMM not to suffer from the adverse metrology effects from their dissipating heat signature. The optimized split Y-axis carriageway design derives all the metrology benefits of a high-carriageway and the operational convenience of a low-carriageway.  In-house manufactured 3D printed components are deployed to join the unidirectional carbon fibre tubing used throughout the design. A non-homogenous X-beam optimizes the stiffness-to-weight ratio along the entire axis. The Horizon CMM is the culmination of Aberlink’s 26 years of CMM design innovation and in-house manufacturing technology. It sets new standards in CNC CMM performance and price.

Aberlink’s latest iterations of the hugely successful Xtreme CNC CMMs will be demonstrating the Automation Interface. Designed using a non-Cartesian structure and utilising linear motors and mechanical bearings, the Xtreme CMM provides a robust solution for providing precision inspection results. The CMM’s unique configuration ensures that it maintains its accuracy during very fast measurement and fluctuating shop floor temperatures. With many successful international end user installations in a fully automatic manufacturing environment, Aberlink will ask visitors for their vision of autonomous closed-loop manufacturing and process control.

The latest iteration of Aberlink’s popular MK4 inspection software delivers enhanced functionality and boasts an improved CAD Comparison module and the easiest to use ‘off-line Programming from CAD’ software module currently available. In addition to touch-trigger probing and vision measurement, Aberlink 3D CNC Inspection software enables the extremely accurate, rapid scanning of features and profiles.  To help illustrate the impressive scanning capabilities, made possible as a result of Aberlink’s MK4 software, the new Horizon CMM will be fitted with Renishaw’s PH10M motorised indexing head and SP25M scanning probe.

Also being demonstrated on stand 7207 is ‘the ultimate answer to inspection bottlenecks.’ The Axiom Too HS CMM is the high-specification variant of Aberlink’s best-selling Axiom Too. In addition to boasting an enhanced accuracy specification, the impressive speed of the HS variant enables it to perform a remarkable number of inspection tasks in a fraction of the time normally taken.

Aberlink’s best-selling Axiom Too CMMs will be fitted with latest touch-trigger probing systems, in addition to advanced interchangeable cameras and collimated light systems.  Available in both manual and CNC variants, the cost effective Axiom Too range is capable of providing consistent, precise results within inspection departments or on the shop floor, and is able to deliver outstanding performance when used by the novice or an experienced CMM operator.
